Developing talent

We have created the leather industry's
first recognised vocational qualifications.

We are signatories to the UN Global Compact and we measure our performance against the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Developing talent is part of our efforts under Goals 4, 8, & 16: Reduced inequalities.

The success and sustainability of Scottish Leather Group is, above all, driven by our talented team of people.

We created the leather industry’s first recognised vocational qualifications, certified by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). Our two-year SLG Academy programme develops the next generation of future leather innovators.

In 2021 we are widening our SLG Academy, enhancing our offering to include career disciplines such as Laboratory, Production Support and Operational Excellence and extending our STEM commitments.

To date we have developed more than 60 apprentices within Manufacturing and Production and Maintenance Engineering.

Some of our apprentices have gone on to more advanced positions, having graduated or currently attending University to gain degrees in Leather Technology and Engineering and Design and Manufacturing.

Over 200 students have been awarded our leather industry SVQs.

Our commitments

  • By 2022 We will be accredited to the UN Global Compact.

  • By 2023 We will have verified the integrity of our supply chain to meet internationally accepted standards.
