Building future talent

We have created the leather industry’s first
recognised vocational qualifications.

We are signatories to the UN Global Compact and we measure our performance against the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Vocational qualifications are part of our effort under Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth.

The success of Scottish Leather Group is, above all, driven by our talented team of people.

Our people play a crucial part in delivering our long-term commitment to sustainability.

We created the leather industry’s first recognised vocational qualifications. The SVQ Level 2 award in Leather Production and the SVQ Level 3 award in Leather Manufacture are certified by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), building skills that benefit our whole field. Over 200 students have qualified for the awards to date.

In 2020 we will launch our foundation management development programme. This will equip our front line Supervisors and Team Leaders with the required skills to ensure they are successful in their roles, as well as improving their overall confidence and helping them reach their full potential.

The health, safety and wellbeing of our employees is paramount. We promote the workplace based Healthy Working Lives initiative, encompassing employee workplace recognition, equal pay and equal rights. All companies in the Group have achieved either the Silver or Gold awards and also the ROSPA gold award for excellence in health and safety.

Over 200 students have been awarded our leather industry SVQs.

Our commitments

  • By 2021 We will be accredited to, and exceed the requirements of, the Healthy Working Lives standards for employee wellbeing.

  • By 2022 We will be accredited to the UN Global Compact.

Scottish Leather Group’s eighth annual Sustainability Report summarises our activities and commitments on our journey towards a sustainable future.
